The Democrats for a Better Alexandria (DBA), formed last month as an organization to support individuals running for Alexandria City Council, has sent a questionnaire to all 13 Democratic candidates who have announced for the June 12 primary election.
The questionnaire deals with such issues as land use; traffic and transportation; green open space; adequate affordable housing; and transparency, accountability, efficiency and civility in government.
Candidates have been given two weeks to respond. When responses have been received, the group will determine which candidates best meet its objectives. DBA then will provide a range of support to them, including financial, for the Democratic primary, an election that will be open to all registered voters.
In a statement issued today, the organization stated: “With such a large number of candidates in the race, we believe it is necessary to provide some method of determining their views on the crucial issues facing the City of Alexandria. There has been no decision made or implied on any of those aspiring to office. The decisions of the DBA on candidates will be made only after responses to the questionnaire have been received and assessed by our members.”
The DBA recently has opened two sites on the Internet: a blog and a Facebook page. The responses to the questionnaire will be posted (via links) at these two places once the two week period to respond has ended.
The questionnaire can be found here.
