Old Town Boutiques See Steady Stream of Shoppers
Black Friday sales attract shoppers to specialty stores in Old Town.
The Old Town Boutique District's efforts to market the deep discounts offered by its members paid off as the specialty stores saw a steady stream of customers beginning at 6 a.m. Friday.
A line of about 70 people at 8:30 a.m. were patiently waiting outside of fibre space, which had been servicing clients since the early opening hours. Members of the group chatted pleasantly outside, well-bundled in colorful sweaters while exchanged tips on knits and yarns, a store specialty.
Christi Furman, who was working the cash register at Hooray for Books! on Friday morning said the children's book store had seen constant customers since the early opening hours.
"It's been a steady stream all morning," she said, adding that the store got an extra boost from the marketing efforts by the Old Town Boutique District, a consortium of stores in the area.
The stores offer a 30% discount on all merchandise 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. with lesser discounts as the day progresses.
