Chakra Cafe Closes Abruptly

The restaurant at Franklin and S. Washington streets announced its closure Monday.

Chakra Café abruptly announced on its Facebook page it would close permanently.

The Indian and Asian fusion restaurant is located at 600 N Franklin St., next door to Balducci's near the intersection of Franklin and S. Washington streets in Old Town.

“We are sorry to announce that Chakra Cafe is now closed," the restaurant's owners wrote in a Monday post. "Thanks to all of you for your support and patronage. It has been wonderful to serve you and such fun to meet you all. We are sorry to go but will always cherish the memories.”

A call to the café was not answered, but a voice mail message says the café is closed and thanks its patrons for their support.

Chakra celebrated its grand opening in September 2011.

Commenters on the Facebook page expressed disappointment with the  news, with one patron noting she had just visited the restaurant Sunday.

Isn't this the same place where Farrah Olivia was before it closed? Seems like maybe that isn't the best spot for a restaurant/cafe. Perhaps Balducchi's should take over the space and offer some sort of cafe or coffee shop?

Only problem with Farrah Olivia was the service. That's not a bad spot for fine dining...way easier parking than King Street.

I, respectfully, disagree. Every time we ate there the servers and service was great. I just don't think that enough people venturing that far south from King Street for these restaurants to pay their bills.

It's a great location. The problem with Chakra was the food. My wife and I ate there three times. We wanted the place to succeed, the owner was very friendly, but the food was just not that great. Once the food came out cold, and the portions did not exactly correspond well with the prices, even by the recent rise in the price of dining out. When the menu description oversells what comes out of the kitchen, there are going to be problems for the establishment.

Great location straight drive down Washington St from King. Also free garage parking and street parking. Just up the street you have Southside and Facicia Luna restaurants and they seem to be dtoing pretty good. Choice of restaurants seems to be the problem. Farrah Olivia was lovely too upscale and expensive. How about exploring an Italian restaurant like Il Porto on King St. Good selection of food, quality of food very good and reasonable prices. Italian food might just make it. Hope so!
