City of Alexandria New Year's Schedule

Metered parking payments are not required Jan. 1 and no refuse collection scheduled for Jan. 1. Collection usually occurring on Jan. 1, 2, and 3 will be collected one day late.

All City of Alexandria government offices will be open Monday on New Year’s Eve. City government offices will be closed Tuesday in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.

The following information was provided by the City of Alexandria:

Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.) and the Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) will be closed Monday and Tuesday. The Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) will be open on Monday and closed Tuesday.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline, 703-746-4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline, 703-746-3401; and the sexual assault hotline, 703-683-7273.

Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and closed Tuesday.

Museums: All museums operated by the City of Alexandria will be open on their regular schedules on Monday, but will be closed Tuesday. For more information, call 703-746-4554.

Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits on Tuesday. Meter payments are not required on Tuesday.

Recreation Centers: On Monday, Alexandria neighborhood recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and the Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center will be closed. All City of Alexandria recreation centers will be closed Tuesday.

Refuse Collection: Residential trash and recycling will be collected on Monday. There will be no collection scheduled for Tuesday. Residential trash and recycling normally scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday will be collected one day late. Residents who receive city refuse collection may place Christmas trees at the curb for recycling on regular trash collection days, beginning Jan. 7 through Jan. 18. Trees set out before that time will be collected as regular refuse. The Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Collection site (3224 Colvin St.) is open Monday.

Schools: The Alexandria City Public Schools are closed through Tuesday, reopening Wednesday.

State Offices: The General District Court and Circuit Court will be closed on Jan. 1; the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and the Alexandria DMV Office (2681 Mill Rd.) will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

Transit: DASH will operate a regular weekday schedule Monday. Beginning at 6 p.m., free shuttle service will be provided for First Night Alexandria along King Street between the King Street Metrorail Station and the Potomac River waterfront until 1 a.m. There will be no DASH service on Tuesday, except for the King Street Trolley.

Trolley: On Monday, the free King Street Trolley will begin at 11:30 a.m. and provide shuttle service for First Night Alexandria until 1 a.m. On Tuesday, the trolley service will operate on its normal schedule, every 15 minutes between the King Street Metro and the Potomac River saterfront from 11:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m.
