City Seeks Input on Jefferson-Houston Redevelopment

Open house and community meeting are scheduled for Tuesday night at the Durant Center.

There’s an open house and community meeting Tuesday night hosted by the city to discuss redevelopment plans for Jefferson-Houston School.

The meeting at the Durant Center, which is located next to the school on Cameron Street, will be conducted in two parts. The first hour will be an open house format where citizens can walk around to tables organized by topics and speak to representatives from the city and Alexandria City Public Schools.

Citizens may arrive at any time during the open house from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The second part of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. and will be an hour-long listening forum for the community to share their comments about the project with city staff. Detailed notes will be taken to record these comments, according to a city news release.

ACPS is expected to submit applications, including a DSUP (Development Special Use Permit) application, for this project this month.

City staff will be reviewing the applications throughout the fall and seeks community input.

Forgive me if I am wrong but is today not Tuesday? A bit late to get this notice out to the public. Was this late notice on the part of Patch or on the part of ACPS?

ACPS has publicized it. I had posted the information earlier on the Old Town Alexandria Patch Facebook page and on its Twitter account @alexandriapatch. The city sent a news release about it this morning as a reminder, which also reminded me.
