Free Play at Three of the City's Synthetic Turf Fields

City offering residents free play time without a permit at three parks

Alexandria is offering free community open play days throughout the summer at three of the city's synthetic turf fields.

Beginning Saturday, July 9, residents are encouraged to visit the fields to play soccer, Frisbee, lacrosse, touch football and do some all around exercise without the usual city permit.

Participants must provide their own equipment and wear tennis or turf shoes. No pets, smoking, alcohol or music are allowed on the fields and children must have a chaperone. Additionally, pick-up games will have enforced time limits.

The city generally requires use of its athletic fields by permit only and are available on a first come, first serve basis. Alexandria's City Council approves the fee schedule, which for fiscal year 2012 ranges from $10 to $167 to use a field. To make a request to reserve a field or outdoor court, complete an Athletic Field and Outdoor Court Request Form (pdf).
