French Bistro Planned for Tiffany Tavern Space

Owner of Bistrot Lepic and Wine Bar in Georgetown plans to utilize second level of King Street property for larger restaurant.

The Tiffany Tavern sign may soon come down from its perch above King Street.

Alexandria Planning Commission signed off on plans Tuesday to open a new French bistro-style restaurant at 1116 King St. operated by the owner of Georgetown’s Bistrot Lepic and Wine Bar.

Tiffany Tavern closed in March after 33 years in operation at the location.

Applicant Cyrille Brenac said he is still working on a name for the new place.

Along with reworking the downstairs dining room, Brenac is proposing to open up the previously unused upstairs portion of the space and creating a public dining room with small bar area and a private dining area with wine cellar.

The upstairs area will be used primarily during evening hours and will host live jazz music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

With the 52-seat second level, the proposed restaurant would have a total of 120 seats.

The bistro is expected to keep hours of 11:30 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 11 a.m. to midnight on weekends. The property does come with grandfathered hours, allowing the late closing on weekdays.

Bistrot Lepic, located at 1736 Wisconsin Ave. NW in the District, is known for its extensive wine list and weekly tastings.

Brenac's application will go before City Council on June 15.
