Historic Alexandria: The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum [VIDEO]
The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum on S. Fairfax Street is a treasure trove of information for kids as well as adults.
Old Town Alexandria's Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum is one of the city's hidden gems.
The apothecary was a family business founded in 1792, which eventually was turned into a museum.
See the attached video for highlights from a tour offered by site manager Lauren Gleason.
The museum showcases a range of herbal botanicals, blown glass and a collection of archival materials — including a note from the original first lady, Martha Washington, who requested three quarts of Castor oil.
The museum also is hosting a "Wonders of Science" program Feb. 2 and March 16 and a "Mad Science" program April 28 that helps Girl Scouts achieve their Home Scientist badge.
