Huzzah! Kids are running the show – at Gadsby’s Tavern.
Between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, visitors touring Gadsby’s will meet 18th century characters portrayed by students.
The event was planned by a team of 5th through 7th grade volunteers as part of the museum’s Kids Take Over the Museum challenge enabling students to plan and host a museum event of their choice.
Additionally, in honor of Veterans Day and the American Legion Post #24 support of Gadsby’s, the students are inviting all veterans, active duty military and their families to attend at that time for free. Admission for others is $5 per adult, 3 per child ages 5 through 12.
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington. The tavern served as a gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn and influence history.
