Letter to the Editor: Moshenberg on Beauregard
Alexandria City Council candidate Sammie Moshenberg (D) encourages current councilmembers to vote against the Beauregard Small Area Plan.
To the editor:
At Wednesday night’s Alexandria Democratic Committee City Council candidate debate, virtually everyone signaled the importance of addressing affordable housing in Alexandria. From the outset, some of us had said the Alexandria faces a crisis in affordable and workforce housing and in its treatment of low-income and working families and communities. Now, with different solutions and plans, almost everyone agrees.
Words are fine, actions speak louder. Many candidates argued that 'smart growth' means locating density around Metro stations and hubs. I agree. That’s why I oppose the Beauregard Small Area Plan. It’s a high-density project with absolutely no Metro station in sight. Absolutely none. Not now. Not ever.
I encourage the City Council to vote "no" on the Plan on Saturday. I encourage the City Council members who have publically stated that smart and balanced growth in Alexandria means density around Metro stations to heed their own words.
Sincerely,
Sammie Moshenberg
Democrat for City Council

This small area plan will only compliment the gridlock that comes with our new ARMY BASE. If the redevelopment of the Beauregard Corridor does not include widening the road to 6 lanes or widening for even bicycle lanes, all it is going to do is bring gridlock at the expense of more tax dollars which will come to late for city infrastructure and emergency services needs. Social programs, social programs that's all that is ever pushed by a majority of our council at the expense of everything else.
