Alexandria’s Morrison House has been named “one of the 50 best hotels in the world” by Travel + Leisure magazine.

“History buffs will rejoice at the classically beautiful Morrison House, located near our nation’s capital. Ascend a winding staircase into the sturdy brick building, home to 45 stately guestrooms as well as a parlor, library, casual and formal restaurants, and salon bar,” says the review. “Guests are encouraged to use the library, where you can curl up with some historical fiction on a big armchair. After dinner (at either the Grille or the more formal Dining Room), head over to the piano bar and sing along to old-school tunes with a live band.”

The hotel, located on S. Alfred Street in Old Town, is part of Kimpton Hotels. Kimpton, based in San Francisco, owns more than 50 boutique hotels across the country including Alexandria's Hotel Monaco and Lorien Hotel & Spa.

The magazine says the world's very best hotel is Singita Grumeti Reserves in Tanzania.
