Photo Gallery: Fort Ward Civil War Camp Day

The Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site held a day-long event to educate and demonstrate Civil War era life.

With storm clouds looming, the Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site held a day full of historic reenactments and demonstrations. The event allowed visitors and enthusiasts to learn more about camp life during the Civil War.

Costumed interpreters representing a variety of military outfits were present to help visitors learn about how soldiers lived during the war.  Demonstrations included military drills, uniform explanations and firearm exhibitions.

In between demonstrations, visitors could speak with individual interpreters. These interactions allowed the public to learn more about the life of a soldier, the history of the regiment they represented, and detailed backgrounds regarding the equipment and tools they would have used on a daily basis.
