City Council candidates and others scoop for Carpenter's Shelter.

Alexandria Vice Mayor Kerry Donley and City Council candidates John Chapman, Melissa Feld, Sean Holihan, Tim Lovain, Allison Silberberg and Justin Wilson were among those who volunteered their time on Tuesday to scoop ice cream for  at  in Old Town.

Carpenter’s Shelter was selected as the beneficiary of the event. The organization is dedicated to ending homelessness in the region through services, education and advocacy.

Ben & Jerry’s donated tubs of ice cream to Carpenter’s Shelter so the residents could participate in their own Cone Day at the shelter.

The guest scoopers wore Carpenter’s Shelter aprons. Chapman even wore a crown. Several chimed in about the experience on Twitter.
