It's a Ruff Life: Postal Service Debuts 'Dogs at Work' Stamps
Post Office offers stamps for dog lovers.
The Post Office is making dog people very happy this week.
If you’re still old-fashioned at heart like me and enjoy keeping the written word alive in forms other than just email, you’ve probably realized that the price of a stamp increased on Sunday to 45 cents. Many of you will make your trips to the Post Office this week, so while you’re there, check out the new “Dogs at Work” stamp series.
The set of four stamps celebrates the relationship between dogs and people by highlighting four different service dogs: guide dogs, therapy dogs, tracking dogs and search dogs. The stamps were painted by artist John Thompson from Syracuse, N.Y.
They commemorate search and rescue teams, human and canine, that aid in national and international disasters. This design was unveiled in Merrifield, Va., last Friday with members of the Fairfax County Search and Rescue team in attendance to receive honor for their response to more than 60 disasters, including the Pentagon after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
It's important to note that these stamps are for 2 oz. first class mail (65 cents), or in other words, heavier first class mail or odd sized letters. They’re perfect for oversized invitations.
If you’d rather see your dog on a stamp, check out Zazzle. It's a great online company that allows you to upload your own photo and create a customized stamp for $18.95 (20 stamps). These are especially fun for mailings like wedding invitations, thank you notes or birthday cards.
