Rebuilding Together Alexandria Assists Nearly 100 Residents
Volunteers upgrade homes for low-income, disabled and elderly residents on National Rebuilding Day.
Nearly 100 Alexandria residents received free repairs and upgrades to their homes on Saturday as part of Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s volunteer-driven efforts on National Rebuilding Day.
Approximately 1,000 volunteers upgraded homes for low-income, disabled and elderly residents with support from Skanska, Booz Allen Hamilton, First Baptist Church, Sears and Wells Fargo.
Event organizers passed on these photos of Archie, a widowed, longtime Alexandria resident. Archie served in the 1st Cavalry in Korea and worked for many years as a youth football coach in Alexandria.
RTA volunteers helped take down a tree, level a sidewalk, fix a fence, repair cabinets and drywall, repair some windows and plant flowers at Archie’s home.
RTA, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, has worked on more than 1,400 projects in the city.
