T.C. Girls Basketball Honors Breast Cancer Survivors

Organizers of the Pink Zone event also announced that Alexandria will host the Relay for Life in Del Ray this spring to support the American Cancer Society.

The T.C. Williams High School girls basketball team honored breast cancer survivors at the third annual Pink Zone event this week.

Before the Feb. 5 game, Coach Kesha Walton presented survivors Lieutenant Monique Rea, Sergeant Lynn Oliver and Deputy Valarie Wright of the Alexandria Sheriff's Office and her own mother Eva Walton with pink carnations and courtside seats to see the Titans play Lake Braddock. Michelle Daichman of the American Cancer Society gave each woman a special survivor sash.

The Alexandria Fire Department showed its support of breast cancer awareness by selling pink "Fired up for the Cause" T-shirts benefitting the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund for Early Detection and Education at Inova Alexandria Hospital.

The Alexandria Sheriff's Association purchased shirts for members of the girls basketball team, who wore them during pregame warm-ups.

Pink Zone organizers announced that Alexandria will host the Relay for Life on May 18 in Del Ray to support the American Cancer Society.
