The Patents and Trademarks of Steve Jobs – Art and Technology that Changed the World

- Why Go: Tour this educational exhibit honoring the creativity and ingenuity of the late Steve Jobs.

Alexandria Farmers Markets
- Where: Old Town Farmers Market in Market Square on King Street, and Del Ray Farmers' Market on the corner of East Oxford and Mount Vernon avenues
- When: Saturdays; Old Town from 5:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Del Ray from 8 a.m. to noon
- Why Go: Both of these markets are open year round, and both offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, dairy products, baked goods, and much more.

Advent Calendar Closing Celebration and Silent Auction
- Where: Christmas Attic, Alexandria
- When: Saturday, Jan. 7 from noon to 2 p.m.
- Why Go: Twenty-four works of art produced by area schools, churches, and community organizations were revealed each day of the Advent calendar, and now these works of art are available for purchase through silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. Refreshments and family friendly activities will be available.

Storytelling Festival

ArtNotes presents “Shade Parade”
- Where: Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton
- When: Saturday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
- Why Go: “Shade Parade” is a pop/rock band led by one of the Workhouse music instructors. The performance will follow the opening reception of the New Works exhibit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Winter Ranger Hike
- Where: Mason Neck State Park, Lorton
- When: Sunday, Jan. 8 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Why Go: Meet at the Bayview Trail Head for a guided tour where you’ll learn about park wildlife and ways to preserve nature. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. You’ll also need a bottle of water and, of course, your camera.

United States Marine Band Concert
- Where: George Mason University Center for the Arts, Fairfax
- When: Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m.
- Why Go: Enjoy this free concert by “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, featuring musical selections by John Philip Sousa.
