Yogiberry Old Town would operate an 1,800-square foot space where customers would dispense their own frozen yogurt and then add fruit and assorted toppings themselves, paying by weight.

The store would operate from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily and have 24 seats as well as carry-out.

Planning and Zoning staff is recommending approval, adding there was “some concern about the proposed yogurt shop opening in tenant space previously occupied by retail use” but staff does not object to the applicant’s request given the restaurant’s lack of live entertainment or alcohol.

While staff said it prefers retail use at the location, “the opportunity to fill tenant space vacant for about a year outweighs that preference.”

Additionally, the restaurant’s décor of a highly modern, brightly lit interior with plastic and vinyl isn’t “entirely compatible with the neighborhood” so staff has asked for some conditions related to that.

The application will go before the commission Jan. 5 and City Council  Jan. 21.
