Something Quick, Cold and Vegan on a Hot Day in Old Town

This week I had the opportunity to try out Killer E.S.P. formally known as a Boccato at 1012 King Street. Given the change of ownership unless you know where it is there's no sign outside indicating its name.

This first and only Italian influenced gelaterie in Old Town offers a very sweet atmosphere for small tables and a little patio in the back. It offers several fruit-based Sorbetto which according to the employees are completely vegan. These varieties can be identified by their orange label. As always its best to double check with your friendly staff member to in sure the variety you want is vegan. If you're feeling like a little more than just gelato they also offer empanadas provided by Julia's empanadas

The selection is small, but they do offer one vegetarian butternut squash crust empanada. This butternut squash empanada offers a light and fluffy crust with an average, and  slightly under seasoned filling. It's just one critics opinion that the vegetables inside might not have been used at their peak afresh. If you're feeling a little thirsty Killer E.S.P. offers several iced and hot coffee and tea drinks which can be made with soy milk upon request. Although their chai latte comes from a box is still quite flavorful and delicious on a warm summer day.

Overall I would give Killer E.S.P. 4 carrots for charm, 4 carrots for their variety of vegan Sorbetto, 4 carrots flavor. However Julia's empanadas fall slightly flat only earning 3 carrots.

Thanks for the post! I didn't realize there was a change in ownership. I wonder if that has impacted the quality of the gelato and sorbet?
