My theory is that the rise of the obesity rate is a result of convenience and war…

It all began with the CAR!

-In 1908- Henry Ford improves the assembly line for auto manufacturing as a result cars could be made more efficiently therefore making them more affordable.

What does this mean??? LESS WALKING MORE RIDING! 

-The government organization that keeps track of health related issues in America is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aka the CDC was founded on July 1, 1946. They measure anything having to do with health. which ranges from diseases to safety.

Guess what else began in 1946??

-The National School Lunch program began in 1946 established under the Richard B. Russell School Lunch Act based on the idea that malnourished children are a matter of national security because they are too skinny to fight.

-By 1949 there were millions of TV sets in homes

-Color TV became popular in the 1960's 

-In 1980 about half of all american tv sets were color

-By 1984 there are computers in schools

-Obesity measurement as being high started about 1985

-Personal computers for homes introduced about 1985

-In 1983 The Commodore 64 is introduced as the most powerful video game console to date and the least expensive.

Guess when Nintendo is tested in NY? IN 1985 and released in 1986!! 

 -by 1988 laptops were developed and %60 of all workers in the US used computers

-In 1989 the game boy was released 

-By 1995 the internet began to boom, computers were in every school and almost every classroom.

 -Somewhere around 2005 organizations began to notice that school lunches were not healthy

-February 9, 2010 Michelle Obama releases the healthy kids initiative

-In April 8, 2010 Mission Readiness which is a group of retired military leaders released a report that says that kids are too fat to fight.

 Now in 2012 the obesity rate is still highest among children from low-income families. Did you know that now even if you don't want free/reduce lunch for your child all children that receive medicaid are automatically qualified for free/reduced lunch at the beginning of the school year? The paper that you used to have to take home to your mother and have her fill out for free/reduced lunch….those days for are over for low-income families.

This is the evolution of the epidemic plaguing Americans. What other things will we ignore until they are just too BIG to ignore?
