Named for social crusader Kate Waller Barrett, the Barrett Branch Library was built in 1937.  Two years later, it was the site of one of the earliest sit-ins during the Civil Rights era. Today the library offers books and more, including computers and Internet access, and children's story hours for ages 12 months to age 5. Day care centers and other groups are welcome to call 703-746-1703, extension 5, to arrange for an age-appropriate program. A book discussion group meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
