Second Thursday, 'Motormouth' Jones and Chocolate Milkshakes

Plus, Olivia Mancini and DASH.

Five things for Thursday, Sept. 12 in and around Old Town Alexandria:

Second Thursday — Head down to the lower King Street area from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for “Night of a Thousand Strings.” Keep your eyes peeled for fiber art, yarn bombs and a chance to play alongside the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. More information available on the Second Thursday website.

Sgt. Larvelle “Motormouth” Jones — Michael Winslow, the “Man of 10,000 Sound Effects” and—in all truth—the best thing about the “Police Academy” movies, will be at the Old Town Theater (815 ½ King St.) for a series of shows beginning tonight. Tickets start at $25. More information available at the Old Town Theater website.

DASH Needs Your Help — Alexandria’s bus system is seeking input and insight from customers to help provide higher quality service and identify future transit needs. The second of two public meetings is at 7 p.m. at Landmark Mall. More information on the meetings is posted on this Del Ray Patch announcement

Chocolate Milkshakes — Celebrate the coldest of chocolate concoctions today on National Chocolate Milkshake Day. Where’s your favorite place to get one in Old Town? I’m a fan of the shakes at The Creamery (110 King St.). I drink them up!

Olivia Mancini — This somewhat-local musician (she splits her time between D.C. and New York) hits the stage at The Light Horse at 10 p.m. Check out some of Mancini’s tunes on her bandcamp site.
