Here are 5 Things for your Wednesday in and around Old Town Alexandria:

This observance was established in 1988 to honor senior citizens in the U.S. who make positive contributions in their communities. The day is also aimed at bringing awareness of social, health and economic issues that affect senior citizens.

Artwork of all mediums inspired by environments as diverse as coastal scenes and industrial-urban areas is on display today from noon to 6 p.m. at 105. N. Union St.
Open Mic Night — Did you know your neighbor can play a mean guitar? Find out at 8:30 tonight at 219 Restaurant (219 King St.) for open mic night.
Jewelry Making — The Potomac Bead Company (1104 King St.) hosts a jewelry making class from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission runs between $18 and $25.
