Courtney Pippin-Mathur wins a 2014 Christopher Award for "Maya was Grumpy"

Alexandria Va-based author and illustrator Courtney Pippin-Mathur won a 2014 Christopher Award for “Maya was Grumpy," a book for children preschool and up (Flashlight Press).  Any child suffering from a bad mood will delight in the book which depicts a little girl whose grouchiness is lifted by her grandmother’s clever and giggle-inducing ideas.

The awards—in their 65th year--will be given at a gala in New York City on May 15th.

Pippin-Mathur wrote on her website: “I discovered my love for drawing by re-creating the characters from my favorite animated movies. It wasn't until college and an awesome teacher that I realized I could draw for a career. I switched from government to Studio Art and never looked back.” She paints in watercolor and teaches art to elementary school students while also caring for her daughter and twin sons.
