Register Today for Camp Carlyle: Journey to the Past

Do you love history? Come join us for Camp Carlyle where you will spend a week at the Carlyle House being immersed in the past! Become a history detective and explore the house looking for clues about John Carlyle’s life while learning about life in Alexandria during the 18th and 19th centuries. This seemingly unsuspecting historic house museum is ready to be invaded this summer!

This program is intended for boys and girls ages 9-12 and will run from Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn about 18th century games, clothing, schooling, foodways, trade and money, city life and primary source documents.  Activities will include field trips to other museums in Old Town Alexandria, storytelling, art and games.  Space is limited, and registration is first come first serve.  The cost of the program is $300 per child in district, and $350 per child out-of-district.  (Districts include City of Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax City, Fairfax County, Falls Church and Loudoun County)

The Carlyle House’s mission is to educate and engage the public in the history of the house and the people who lived here, as well as Alexandria history.  The historic Carlyle House was completed in 1753 by British merchant and town founder John Carlyle for his bride, Sarah Fairfax of Belvoir, member of one of the most prestigious families in colonial Virginia.
