White started her own YouTube channel in 2011 to provide tips and demonstrations of appropriate makeup and fashion for teens.

As Miss District of Columbia’s Outstanding Teen 2013, her platform during her year of service is “Empowering Girls Through Media." She will work with DC-area organizations to highlight positive ways for teens to use digital media to enhance their educational experiences and opportunities, according to a press release.

Patch had the opportunity to chat with White before she heads to Florida where she will compete with 51 other talented and intelligent young women, ages 13 to 17, from around the country.

Patch: What is your favorite thing about living in the DC area?

Logan White (LW): DC is such a buzzing, cultural hub- from fashion to food to politics we have it! DC truly has something to offer for everyone! I especially love DC's rich history- even since a young age I've been able to experience so much history in the making. It's quite incredible.

Patch: What's your favorite place in Alexandria?

LW: Old Town is definitely my favorite place in Alexandria—not only does it have some of the coolest boutiques ever, but its history is so incredible. Did you know there's a house that George Washington lived in IN Old Town? (Can you tell I like history?)

Patch: What's your favorite thing about going to school in Georgetown?

LW: Definitely the ability to walk around Georgetown after school. Much like Old Town, everything in Georgetown is easily accessible. My friends and I can go down to M street after school on a Friday, shop, get dinner, and then see a movie without having to drive anywhere! It's also given me the ability to be Miss DC's Outstanding Teen!

Patch: Why do you participate in pageants?

LW: The confidence it provides is truly incredible. I can attest to the fact that before I ever participated in pageants, my stage presence was not developed and I was embarrassed to talk in front of a large group of people. But, even after doing my first pageant, my confidence level rose to the point that someone could ask me to bust out a song I barely knew and I would do it.

In the past I've also found it difficult to give back to the DC community in a way that would truly make an impact, but as Miss DC's Outstanding Teen I've been given a voice and an opportunity to reach out to my community and provide service to those in need, as well as be a source for other teens in search for opportunities to give back.

Patch: Are your friends and teachers supportive of your pageant activities and/or YouTube channel?

LW: Surprisingly, with both my YouTube channel and my participation in pageants, yes! My friends are always asking to be in my videos or to try on my crown. They are fully supportive of what I do.

My teachers are also quite supportive! In fact, just the other day I got a letter in the mail from my principal congratulating me on my becoming Miss DC's Outstanding Teen. I've also, on multiple accounts, been asked by teachers on how to edit videos or what my channel name is.

Patch: What are your hopes for Orlando?

LW: I hope to make long lasting friendships! Not every girl can say she has a friend in every state. I also hope to do the best that I possibly can, and to make DC proud.
