Cities With the Best, Worst Weather: Where Do Virginia Cities Rank?

Virginia has some cities ranking high in the best weather category, and some that fall near the very worst.

If you revel in mild weather – defined as less-than-tropical humidity, not too much snowfall, lots of sunshine – then Virginia is not the place for you.

According to the folks at the WalletHub website, who analyzed Census date for climate, Arlington and Alexandria rank #88 for the worst weather among large cities, and Washington, D.C., is close behind, ranked at #93.

The website compared 600 of the largest U.S. cities based on the year-round weather conditions in each, using factors such as humidity, precipitation and snowfall as well as odds of poor and extreme weather.

The city with arguably the worst weather for the non-hearty: Youngstown, Ohio. Several cities in California, including Pasadena, tied for the best weather for the meek.

Weather experts defined ideal values, including temperature (°F), 72 degrees; and for each season:

  • Winter: 45 degrees
  • Spring: 65 degrees
  • Summer: 80 degrees
  • Fall: 65 degrees
