Forecasters: Weather Alert for Wednesday

Temps will be high and look for a storm threat, weather forecasters say.

Expect Wednesday to be the hottest and stormiest day of the week, according to local forecasters.

The heat will be on Wednesday with temperatures hitting the 90s and mugginess pushing the heat index up near 100 degrees. In addition to the hot temperatures midweek, the DC metro area could see storms, according to local forecasters.

Here's what they're saying:

Topper Shutt, WUSA-9: "The critical time is between 5 PM and 10 PM. The morning commute Wednesday will be dry but the ride home will be stormy. The cold front is a bit ahead of schedule so Wednesday will not only be the hottest day of the week but also the stormiest."

The Capital Weather Gang  "It could be a stormy evening in the D.C. region on Wednesday, and some storms could be locally severe, though we’re not expecting to see any widespread severe weather. We have a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, mainly for the late afternoon and early evening hours."

NBC-4's local forecast: "There will be a chance for severe weather Wednesday afternoon. The main threat will be damaging winds. Rain chances will continue into Thursday with scattered showers possible into the early afternoon."

The good news: Thursday will see lower humidity with highs in the 80s.
