Frugal Family: First Thursday, Taste of Del Ray, Free Pizza and Pools

ARTS

  • What’s the deal? First Thursday on the Avenue: Dog Days of Summer
  • When: First Thursday of each month, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.  | Next on Thursday, June 2
  • Where: Mt. Vernon Avenue, Del Ray

  • What’s the Deal? Alexandria Art Market at Del Ray Artisans
    The market boasts amazing artwork from local artists, music from multicultural musicians and great food from local restaurants. 
  • When: The first Saturday of each month. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. | Next on Saturday, June 4
  • Where: Del Ray Artisans Del Ray Artisans, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria. Located on the green space of the Del Ray Artisans’ gallery in Colasanto Park.
  • Cost: Free and open to the public

HISTORY

  • What’s the deal?  Family Tour Day at historic Gadsby’s Tavern Museum
    Junior Docents, volunteers from grades 3 through 7, will be stationed at each stop on the tour, including the taproom, bedchambers, ballroom, assembly room and dining room. Tour at your own pace and let your children learn about history from other kids.
  • When: Sunday, June 5  |  Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

  • What’s the Deal? A Taste of Del Ray
    Del Ray restaurants and eateries will showcase their offerings, with celebrity chef judge, Carla Hall, Top Chef Fan Favorite and the owner and Executive Chef of Alchemy by Carla Hall in Washington, D.C.
  • When: Sunday, June 5  |  1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: 2401 Mt. Vernon Avenue in the parking lot behind Virginia Commerce Bank. Music at the Del Ray Farmer’s Market site at Mt. Vernon & E. Oxford avenues.

  • What’s the deal? Free 4" Pizza for Kids 6 & Under at Pizzeria Paradiso
  • When: M - F Open - 6 p.m.
  • Where: Pizzeria Paradiso, 124 King Street, Alexandria

RECREATION

  • What’s the Deal? A dip in the pool
  • When: Weekends only through June 26. Daily through late August
  • Where: Old Town Pool, 1609 Cameron St  |  Warwick Pool, 3315 Landover St.
  • Cost: Kids under 4 - Free  |  Youth 5 – 17 and Seniors - $1  |  Adults - $2  | Non-residents - $3. Season passes available for residents
  • Note: The mini-pools, Memorial Pool at Charles Houston Recreation Center and the John Wald Pool on Duke Street, will open on June 27.
