George Washington Birthday Parade Set for Monday in Old Town

The nation’s largest George Washington birthday parade marches a one-mile route Monday from 1-3 p.m. through the streets of Old Town Alexandria. 

The Parade Grand Marshal is Pamela Cressey, the first City Archeologist of Alexandria. With nearly 3,500 participants, this community parade honors one of the City’s favorite sons. Admission is free.

The George Washington Birthday Celebration Parade begins at the corner of Gibbon St. and S. Fairfax St. The parade travels north on S. Fairfax St. and then turns west on Queen St. After one block, the parade continues south on S. Royal St, ending on Wilkes St.

On PARADE DAY, PARKING is FREE at the parking lots adjacent to the Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station; from here, a FREE DASH shuttle bus will take you downtown and back from 11 A.M. TO 4 P.M.   The free OLD TOWN TROLLEY service will also be in operation all day until 11 p.m. from King Street Metro Station going east and west along King Street.  For DASH service to other events, call (703) 370-3274 or go to http://www.dashbus.com/

• The George Washington Classic 10-K Race (Sunday starting at 8 a.m.)
• The Revolutionary War Reenactment at Fort Ward Park (Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.)
