Multiple water main breaks in Alexandria’s West End are making Friday a busy day for utility crews.

About 120 people remain without water service related to two breaks currently under repair. Beatley Library closed at 3:15 p.m. Friday because of several nearby water main breaks.

About 20 customers living between Cameron Station Boulevard and N. Paxton Street are affected by a water main break that’s currently under repair at the corner of S. Pickett and Duke streets, according to a Virginia American Water spokesperson. Restoration is expected later this evening.

About 100 people in apartments are experiencing service disruptions related to another break in the 700 block of N. Iverson Street, according to a Virginia American Water spokesperson. Crews arrived to repair that break around 1:30 p.m. and restoration is expected between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the spokesperson said.

An early morning water main break along Duke Street near the Foxchase shopping center was been repaired, the spokesperson said. Crews are currently fixing the road and a small leak on the service road behind the shopping center.

There have been lane closures at both Duke Street break locations. The city advises drivers to avoid these areas if possible.
