VDOT: Expect Weekend Delays on I-95/395 Through October

I-95/395 HOV lane closures have been extended for construction.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 13, the Virginia Department of Transportation is extending its weekend closures of the I-95/395 HOV lanes from Edsall Road to Dumfries, just south of the Route 234 exit, for construction work.

Through the end of the month, the HOV lanes will close Friday nights and remain closed until 2 p.m. Sunday. In October, the HOV lanes will close Friday nights and remain closed until 4 a.m. Monday mornings. The lanes will reopen to serve northbound traffic.

There will be no daytime closures Columbus Day weekend (Oct. 11-13) and for Redskins home games on Sept. 22 (Lions) and Oct. 20 (Bears). On Sunday game days, the HOV lanes will open northbound by 2 p.m.

VDOT is telling motorists to expect delays along I-95/395 during these HOV lane closures and to plan ahead. The lanes will remain open from the Washington, D.C. border to Duke Street.

The closures will enable various construction projects, including the installation of new sign structure foundations, stormwater drains, asphalt paving, concrete barriers, pavement markings and guardrails and allow time for roadway surface repair.

The projects are expected to be completed in December 2014.
