The United States Air Force Band Chamber Players

  • Where: Burke United Methodist Church, Burke and , Alexandria.
  • When: Burke - Friday at 8 p.m.; Alexandria – Sunday at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: The official chamber orchestra of the United States Air Force is offering two free local concerts this weekend for your enjoyment.
  • Price: FREE.

Alexandria Story Festival

  • Where: , Alexandria
  • When: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Price: Admission is FREE.
  • Why Go: This festival celebrating children’s books and stories will feature author presentations, a scavenger hunt, puppet shows, prize drawings and more.

Carlyle House Historic Fashion Show

  • Where: , Alexandria
  • When: Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
  • Why Go: Models and living history interpreters will present historic fashion throughout the ages. 
  • Price: Adults $10, children $5. Reservations recommended.

DiverseCity Alexandria Multicultural Fest

  • Where: , Alexandria
  • When: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Celebrate Alexandria’s cultural diversity with live music, activities and crafts for kids, ethnic food vendors and more.
  • Price: Admission is FREE.

Alexandria Doggie Day Swim

  • Where: Old Town Pool, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: Bring your canine friend for this special day to splash and play games at the pool. Space is limited to 100 dogs, so pre-registration is required. 
  • Price: FREE, but registration required.

Tea at Downton Abbey

  • Where: Green Spring Gardens, Annandale
  • When: Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Fans of the popular television series will enjoy a full English tea while discussing Edwardian era fashion, food, manners and customs. 
  • Price: $27 per person. Reservations required.

  • Where: Mount Vernon Unitarian Church, Alexandria
  • When: Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Featuring The Valenzano Trio performing a variety of compositional styles from the past 120 years. Funds collected will support the music program at MVUC.
  • Price: FREE. Donations accepted.

  • Wee Got the Beat at Kingstowne Library, Alexandria. Friday at 10:30 a.m. For ages 2 to 5. FREE but registration required.
  • Used Book Sale at John Marshall Library, Alexandria. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Election Movie Series at Beatley Central Library, Alexandria. Sunday at 2 p.m. FREE.

Doggy Dive and Dip Sponsored by Dowden Terrace Recreation Association When: Saturday, September 15, 2012 Time: 1 pm to 5 pm Where: Dowden Terrace Recreation Association 6300 Holmes Run Parkway Alexandria, VA 22311 703-998-9761 Cost: $5 to be distributed equally to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue and Dogs Deserve Better The Dowden Terrace Swimming pool has extended its season to allow a doggy swim. The pool level will be lowered and steps in the shallow end allow easy access for those wanting to ease the way into the water. There is an acre of grassy and treed hills for those who choose to use alternative exercise. Life Guard will be on duty. There will an adoption event and Pavilion tables for dog organizations. The pool is located just minutes from I-395, Seminary Road or Columbia Pike, in a culdesac community. Enter on Dawes Avenue across Seminary Road from the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College and the Coca Cola Company Plant. Please check the Dowden Terrace Recreation Association website for map and detailed directions.
