What makes Malachi a Whiz?

He is an amazing kid that always goes above and beyond in his academics, in helping others and in his athletic pursuits.  Malachi, who was nominated by three people, including his mom, never ceases to amaze his mom with his accomplishments.

Mom says he is already setting goals for himself and is being encouraged to grab everything that life has to offer by working and studying hard. And, it definitely shows in his grades ... he received all A's on his report card and has been on the honor roll several times. While Mom wasn't able to be with him to celebrate, she shared how happy she felt and how proud she is of him.

A well-rounded kid, Malachi plays soccer, baseball, football, chess and, he just started piano lessons. Malachi has also been recognized for his outstanding participation in Vacation Bible School at First Agape Church in Del Ray.

Malachi is described as being very respectful and compassionate towards others and as "an outstanding young man in all that he does."

Congratulations, Malachi, our first Whiz Kid of the Week!

Do you know a Whiz Kid?

Each week we will feature a kid from the City of Alexandria who's a whiz. Parents, teachers, coaches, troop leaders, etc. are all encourage to submit nominations.

We're looking for kids, including teenagers, who have:

  • accomplished a goal that was important to them (won a race, spelling bee or other competition or completed a big project).
  • earned an award, badge or other honor (performed a solo in a concert, got a part in a play, won a chess match, etc.).
  • made a contribution to the community (shoveled out neighbors during the snow, helped search for a lost pet, raised money for a good cause, etc.).
  • demonstrated leadership (organized a group effort or volunteer project, started a new club, went against the grain in a positive and creative way).

Groups or troops can also be recognized ... for example, a Brownie troop that made Valentine's cards for seniors at a nursing home or a group of kids that won an award for a collaborative science fair project.

So, if you know of a kid, single digits to teens, or a group that deserves to be celebrated, nominate them today!
