Free Bookmaking Workshop for Families at the Black History Museum

The event is suggested for families with children ages six through 12. Reservations are requested.

Alexandria’s Black History Museum is hosting a free book making workshop for families this weekend.

The Family Legends of Alexandria Bookmaking Workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and is designed for families with children ages six to 12 years.

Participants chose a family “legend,” write the story and make it into a handmade book.

Sushmita Mazumdar, a book artist, writer and educator, will lead the event. Her handmade storybooks have been sold at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival where she participated in the Asian Pacific American Program and taught a bookmaking workshop to visitors.

The event is open to the public but reservations are requested by calling the museum at 703-746-4356 to reserve a space.
