Alexandria Chamber Elects Former Governor Jim Gilmore to Board

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce on Friday elected former Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore, president of the Free Congress Foundation, and Matt McKinnis, owner of Fitness Together, to its 2014 Board of Directors.

The Free Congress Foundation, located on N. Washington Street in Alexandria, is a conservative think tank founded in 1977 by Paul Weyrich. Since Weyrich's death in 2008, Gilmore has headed the foundation, steering it into economic rather than social issues. Gilmore is also a former chair of the Republican National Committee and is listed as president of USA Secure, a homeland security public policy think tank.

Gilmore and McKinnis were elected to fill open seats on the Board.
