Easter Basket Treats Abound in Alexandria

Where to find some of the best chocolate Easter bunnies and other sweet treats in Alexandria.

When it comes to finding goodies to fill up those Easter baskets, Alexandria is one of the sweetest cities around.

Artfully Gifts & Chocolate at 506 John Carlyle St. in the Carlyle neighborhood has milk, white and dark solid chocolate bunnies, Easter bunny pops, Jelly Bellies, chocolate carrots, and regular and chocolate-dipped Peeps. A favorite of store manager Leslie Batky are the deviled eggs – a white chocolate shell filled with vanilla buttercream or a dark chocolate shell with peanut butter buttercream filling. Similar goods can be found in the sister store, Artfully Chocolate at 2003 Mount Vernon Ave.

Balducci’s at 600 Franklin St. in Old Town is offering chocolate goodies from Long Grove Confectionery Company, Enjou milk and dark chocolate Easter bunnies and for the adults or those kids with a very sophisticated palate – the Vosges pink Himalayan salt caramel bon bon.

Buzz Bakery at 901 Slaters Lane is offering Easter cake pops, bakery-made Peeps, themed sugar cookies and an Easter cookie decorating class Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Children 12 and under will receive one Easter egg cookie, icing and decorating supplies at no charge. Additional cookies for decorating will be available for $1.

Fleurir Hand Grown Chocolates at 724 Jefferson St. in Old Town has hand made Easter bunnies in store as well as truffles. Hop on by.

1218 King St., has in plentiful supply the 100 percent solid Regal Rabbit, available in milk, dark and white chocolate. The confectionery also has in stock a real eggshell hazelnut chocolate truffle. A German company blows out the eggs, sterilizes the shells and fills them with chocolate-hazelnut ganache.
