Floyd's 99 Barbershop Coming to Alexandria

Their motto: "The original rock 'n roll barbershop."

That little square building going up next to the very large new Safeway on King Street and Quaker Lane in Alexandria?

It's going to be a barbershop, according to a Safeway spokesman (as well as a "coming soon" message on the barbershop Web site).

The barbershop, for both men and women, is called Floyd's 99 Barbershop, but if you're thinking Mayberry, think again.

Although the national company says they tailor each shop to the community, the Web site shows a very hip/edgy vibe. The company's Facebook page mentions that haircuts begin at $19 in some locations.

It looks like the shop will likely be open past 5 p.m. It's (only) other Virginia location, at the Mosaic District in Merrifield, shows they are open most days until 9 p.m.

If you do want more of a Mayberry experience, you might try Bradlee Barber Shop at Bradlee Shopping Center.
