John Strongbow's Tavern, at 710 King St. in Old Town Alexandria, has opened for business, according to an announcement from the restaurant.

The medieval tavern and bar, which opened last Thursday, features a menu inspired by the 15th century and it includes pot roast, meat loaf, pork loin, tilapia, stew, chicken pot pie, prime rib, vegetable lasagna as well as vegetables, breads, salads and sandwiches. Desserts include berry tarts and apple or cheese fritters.

The bar offers beers, wines and 15th-century cocktails including The Queen's Martini (vodka, blueberry syrup and and soda) and Ivan the Terrible's White Russian (Smirnoff Whipped Cream Vodka, Kahlua and Creme. Shaken, not stirred).

Hours for John Strongbow's Tavern are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; Sundays you'll find the tavern serving brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and regular tavern fare served from 2-11 p.m.

The decor's handcrafted furniture and murals are by artist Beth Ross of West Virginia.
