Alexandria firm specializes in technology consulting and software development for associations.

Old Town IT, an Alexandria firm specializing in technology consulting and software development for associations, was recently named one of the 500 fastest-growing private companies in the United States by Inc. Magazine.

The firm landed on the list for the second-straight year, coming in at No. 405 on the 2013 list. Last year, Old Town IT ranked No. 444.

“Alexandria supports small businesses like Old Town IT as they expand and create more local job opportunities,” Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille said in a press release. “I’m proud Old Town IT is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia and for the company’s ranking once again as one of the fastest growing companies in the United States.”

The company recently moved its headquarters from offices above Holy Cow in Del Ray to North Old Town’s Washington Square Building, which houses a Trader Joe’s, a Teaism location and offices for the Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association and the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership.

The new office accommodates the firm’s growing staff—now nearly 50 employees—with a configuration that allows for personal workstations as well as collaborative space, call rooms, conference rooms and a web-cam video feed that connects office locations across the country.

The firm also has an office in Springfield, Mo.

Old Town IT’s clients are trade associations and professional societies, many of which are based in Old Town or elsewhere in the Washington, D.C. region.

The Alexandria office is for the client-facing elements of the business, while the Missouri office is for software development and recruiting computer science majors from nearby universities.

Tim Ward founded the company in 2007 and ran it out of his home. The company’s first office was located in a room behind the Greener Cleaner of Del Ray.

The company has grown 1,101 percent since 2010. Companies had to grow more than 918 percent since the start of 2010 to crack Inc. Magazine’s 500.

“We’ve built our business on forging strong relationships with our client partners and delivering innovative software solutions with exemplary customer service,” Ward said in a press release. “We are delighted that our business model has resulted in such growth and attribute our success to the continued support from our association client partners and the diligence and persistence of our dedicated staff.”
