The Sugar Cube Moves Uptown

Candy shop, currently located on N. Lee St., plans to move to upper King St. to expand its party business.

The Sugar Cube has the unenviable task of moving hundreds of pounds of jellybeans within the next couple of months.

It’s moving from its location at 210 N. Lee St. to the this spring.

“It’s an excellent opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” said Kim Theodore, who co-owns the shop with her sister, Alyssa Theodore. The shop’s lease was coming to a close and “we’re looking forward to a place with greater visibility and increased traffic.”

The move, the sisters are happy to say, is all about growth. While the shop, which opened up about five years ago, has been a go-to place for truffles, jellied confections and many other treats, something unexpected happened.

It began offering classes for kids ages four to 12 as well as birthday parties and “that really took off,” Kim Theodore said. “Parties were not initially a part of the business but it’s something that’s really capturing people’s attention.”

Classes include molding and painting lollipops, popcorn-ball making, chocolate dipping and truffle making, ranging in price from $35 to $55 per child, which includes all materials and what ever a child makes.

The new space, at 1218 King St. is a bit smaller, but the shop owners say the layout will allow the business to grow by allowing it to offer a better selection of goods along with a party room.

The shop on Lee St. is currently offering 20% off coupons for a patron's first visit to the new King St. store.

Sweet!
