Virginia Commerce Bank Awards $3K to Small Business Development Center

Donations will help the SBDC hire a business analyst.

The Virginia Commerce Bank Foundation has awarded $3,000 to the Alexandria Small Business Development Center.

The Alexandria SBDC, a non-profit organization hosted by the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership and partially funded by the Small Business Administration and the City of Alexandria, is a community resource that provides counseling, training and information in small business management.

Virginia Commerce Bank has provided more than $165,000 in financial support to the SBDC since 2001. The donation will help the SBDC hire a business analyst, who will work one-on-one with businesses to provide guidance, including help with financial statements and company plans, at no cost to the business. This enables new businesses to get launched as well as help existing businesses to grow.

"Virginia Commerce Bank is dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve,” said Kerry Donley, senior vice president of community banking at the bank, in a statement. “Working with the Alexandria SBDC has been very rewarding; similar to VCB, their mission is to make it possible for many local businesses to grow and prosper. This grant from the VCB Foundation exemplifies the bank’s efforts to support non-profit organizations in Northern Virginia and strengthen our communities.”
