Waterfront Market and Cafe Eyes November Opening

Market and quick-service eatery will have 54-seat patio on the waterfront.

The Waterfront Market and Cafe, a new gourmet store and quick-service eatery preparing to open in the Torpedo Factory Arcade near City Marina, is aiming to begin service in mid-November.

The market had initially expected to open in September.

Jody Manor, owner of Bittersweet Cafe on King Street, received approval from Alexandria City Council to operate the new 4,000-square-foot market in May. Since that time, general contractor Patner Construction has been managing the build out of the 150-seat restaurant. The Waterfront Market will include 76 interior seats, 20 on the King Street sidewalk and 54 seats on a waterfront patio leased from the city for about $11,000 a year.

The Market recently reached out to the community with a survey where potential patrons could state their preferences on what the market and cafe will offer.

“The mission is to build a sense of community on the waterfront,” Manor said in a press release. “I want people to come back and enjoy our waterfront. We are making every effort to exceed expectations and having the input from the survey has been a great resource to help us better serve the community and visitors.”

The menu will include custom sandwiches, flatbreads, sushi and weekend brunch offerings and quick-service items.

The retail market will offer fresh produce, roasted chickens, salads and side dishes along with some craft beers and local and international wines.

Meg Samonds, who most recently managed Kinkead’s in Foggy Bottom, has been hired at the Waterfront Market’s general manager.
