Replacing gutters is a dreaded home improvement. It is expensive, but not sexy. It does not even make good cocktail party conversation. “So what do you have going on this weekend? We are having our gutters replaced. Oh, wow, that’s awesome – we did that last year.” See what I mean?
What if you could make your existing gutters look like new for a fraction of the cost? I watched my handyman do this on a house I am preparing for sale. I gave him a long laundry list of items to do on the house, and I included “please clean the gutters.” I was referring to the leaves overflowing in the gutters – and a few places where there were small plants sprouting. But he took this literally and with a spray can of Clorox bleach tile cleaner he was “cleaning” the gutters. I happened to show up halfway through and to the left was the dirty filthy gutter and to the right was the new and improved sparkling white gutter. So clean it had a reflection! The before/after was remarkable!
Hence the idea was born and I have now hired him to do this on my own house. I had some leaks in the corners and was contemplating a new gutter system altogether. My handyman – shout out to Jim here (if you need his number send me a message) was able to repair some split seams with clear caulk and a blow dryer. There was one gutter beyond repair that he had to replace – but overall for around $400.00 my house got functioning gutters and some bonus curb appeal!
