  • Founders Dog Park will remain open for this season. With turf renovations at Windmill Hill Dog Park and the construction at Montgomery Park it was decided that it would be best to leave Founders completely open for this season and reschedule any turf renovations for next year. There are plans to install a dry well in the low area near the center of the dog park but this will only close a small portion of the park for a few days.
  • Trail work that has been on hold through the winter has been rescheduled for the last week of May. This trail work will raise the low area that retains water for several days after a heavy rain.

Marina

  • Landscaping to improve the turf and trails between Founders Park and the Marina is scheduled for May 21-23, the area will remain open during this time.

 Montgomery Park

  • The current construction in the park is scheduled to last until the end of June.

  • Repairs the tennis court surface are scheduled for June 16-20, the tennis courts will be closed during these repairs.

Windmill Hill Park

  • Half the dog park (west half) will be closed starting between May 26 and June 6. There will be a green or black snow fence to prevent dog/pedestrian traffic. The area will be completely converted to Bermuda grass and the grass will be protected from traffic for a few months while the new turf grows in.

  • Several volunteer groups worked today (May 16) connected with Spring for Alexandria and Global Impact Day. The undergrowth on the hill adjacent to the Wilkes St. Tunnel has been cleared and erosion control measures have been taken. The debris lining the sidewalk is scheduled for removal during the week.

These groups also removed much of the buildup around the volleyball court. The materials taken from the court have been utilized to fill in several low areas.
