The Little Gym of Alexandria at Van Dorn opens its doors on January 14. In honor of its opening their will be a ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce Board Members, the owner of The Little Gym and Mayor William D. Euille is also scheduled to attend. The Ribbon cutting will be held on January 14 at 2 p.m. at The Little Gym of Alexandria at Van Dorn.
The Little Gym will be sharing healthy living tips through community partnerships, on social sites and even via free demonstrations at Whole Food Market in Old Town on select occasions. In addition to our tips and demonstrations, every class at The Little Gym focuses on “Get Moving,” “Brain Boost,” and “Citizen Kid.” Each of these components works to enrich every child’s life with skills to ensure a healthy lifestyle both now and in the future.
One of the components of a “Citizen Kid” is teaching the value of giving. The Little Gym has partnered with a charity, Soles4Souls, to help collect shoes for children in need overseas so they can attend school and be protected from disease. The initiative, ‘Big Hearts, Little Shoes,’ shows our community’s children the value of giving to others. In honor of our grand opening, we will deduct $20 from a child’s first month of class when they bring in at least one pair of shoes to donate to the children in need.
We are looking to collect one million shoes nationwide. Currently, we have collected over 7,000 shoes locally with the help of The Little Gym members and communities in Northern Virginia.
