Songs of the Season: The Mystery of the History

Join the Alexandria Choral Society singers as they unravel the stories behind the melodies that buzz in our collective consciousness this time of year.

Revel in the lush harmonies of your favorite Christmas carols while Mike Baker, acclaimed local actor (Little Theatre of Alexandria, McLean Community Players), tells stories that give new insight into why these pieces are treasured classics. Featuring a host of holiday favorites, including “Coventry Carol,” “The 12 Days of Christmas,” and “The Holly and the Ivy,” as well as lesser-known works, like “Jesus Christ the Apple Tree” and “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day.”

The concert will also include performances by Pro Coro Alexandria and the winners of our annual Carol Competition, a program encouraging local youth to celebrate the joys of singing in an ensemble. A reception of Christmas cookies and mulled wine and cider will follow the concert in the Grand Hall of the George Washington Masonic Memorial.
