Nov. 5: Volunteers and Clients Needed for Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s“Energize Alexandria” Event to Winterize Homes for Low-Income Homeowners

WHAT             More volunteers are needed to help nearly
100 vulnerable Alexandria, Va. residents winterize their homes during Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s (RTA) Energize Alexandria.  Joining volunteers from Washington Gas and with support from Honeywell, Lowes, and
Sears, volunteers will weatherize and provide free energy-efficient upgrades to homes of veterans, low-income, disabled, and elderly residents during this city-wide
event to help vulnerable families and individuals maintain and afford to stay in their homes.  RTA is also still
accepting client applications for low-income homeowners in need of weatherizing.

WHY               A local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, RTA works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize the Alexandria community. RTA—with the help of funders and dedicated volunteers—provides free home repairs and modifications to ensure that low-income Alexandria
homeowners can continue to live in warm, safe and dry homes.  Rebuilding Together Alexandria has worked on
more than 1,400 projects in Alexandria since its inception in 1986.

WHEN             Saturday, November 5 kick off
program starts at 8:30 am

HOW               Teams of volunteers will be making homes ready for the winter in a variety of ways, such as installing window and door weather stripping, low flow aerators, outlet sealants, door sweeps, energy efficient appliances, and insulation as well as caulking to seal air leaks.
