14 New Year's Eve Events in Alexandria

Here are 14 events located within the comfy confines of Alexandria to help you ring in 2014.

The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave., 703-549-7500) — Ring in 2014 with performances from local Americana group Seldom Scene, The Stray Birds and Donna Ulisse. Show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $39.50.

Columbia Firehouse (109 South Saint Asaph St., 703-683-1776) — Holiday hors d’oeuvres, including War Shore oysters on the half shell, mini po’ boys, roast beef sliders and more served in decked-out dining rooms. To keep the festivities flowing, three bars will be serving a menu of beer, wine, bubbles and cocktails reminiscent of a golden, gilded age. Champagne toast, DJ, New Year’s Eve-themed movies and merriment. Tickets are $60 an available for purchase online. Tickets include admission and food. Cash bar. 

Clyde’s at Mark Center (1700 N. Beauregard St., 703-820-8300) — In addition to Clyde’s regular menu, the West End restaurant will offer specials including chili-rubbed leg o’ lamb, roast prime rib of beef, butter-poached local monkfish, grilled filet mignon and bacon-wrapped pork roulade. Enjoy live music by Shartel and Hume and a free champagne toast at midnight. Call for reservations.

Daniel O’Connell’s Restaurant and Bar (112 King St., 703-739-1124) — “Slainte” and a Happy New Year! Specials, live music from David Andrew Smith.

Del Ray Pizzeria (2218 Mount Vernon Ave., 703-549-2999) — Bacon and beer party all day Tuesday and Wednesday. The special bacon-infused menu promises to be a doozy. Bar open late.  

• First Night Alexandria (Various locations across Old Town) — Billed as the largest family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve party in the Washington, DC region. Activities begin early in the afternoon across Old Town and roll to midnight with a fireworks display over the Potomac River to ring in 2014. Admission badges cost $20. Jackson 20 (480 King St., 703-842-2790) — Dinner from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Roaring 20s-themed party with live music. Those dressed in their best Roaring 20s outfit will receive 15 percent off their check (excludes alcohol). Walk of Shame brunch from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 1. Wear what you wore on New Year’s Eve, receive 14 percent discount.

Joe Theismann’s Restaurant (1800 Diagonal Rd., 703-739-0777) — Presenting a special four-course menu ($75 per person, $100 with wine or beer pairings) beginning at 9 p.m. DJ, dancing, party favors and a midnight champagne toast. Reservations require a credit-card hold. Call to book table. Early seating until 7 p.m. with regular menu. 

The Light Horse (715 King St., 703-549-0533) — First-floor dining room open for regular business. Upstairs party begins at 8 p.m. with party favors, champagne toast at midnight and live music throughout the evening. There is a $20 cover. Preorder tickets online.

Pork Barrel BBQ (2312 Mt Vernon Ave., 703-822-5699) — Party gets started at 9 p.m. featuring a wall where attendees can post their resolutions, party favors and a free snack buffet. Ring in 2014 with a toast at midnight with the champagne of beers, Miller High Life.

Southside 815 (815 S. Washington St., 703-836-6222) — Special menu in the dining room, DJ in the bar.

Union Street Public House (121 S. Union Street, 703-548-1785) — Two DJs, three bars and no cover.   

Vermilion (1120 King St., 703-684-9669) Chef Will Morris is putting together a five-course tasting menu for $99 per person. No regular menu. Bar will be open late. Reservations can be made online. Space limited.  

• Virtue Feed and Grain (106 S. Union St., 571-970-3669) — Serving food until midnight. Regular menu, plus specials. Champagne toast for everyone.

• King Street Blues (112 N. Saint Asaph Street, 703-836-8800) — Kids eat for free on New Year's Eve with the purchase of one adult meal $10 or more. Dine-in only cannot be used with other offers.
