Alexandria Firefighters Honor ACPS Students for Call to 911 to Help Mom

Today, several of Alexandria’s dedicated firemen visited Jefferson-Houston School to recognize two students for their recent act of bravery. First-grader Javonne Sydnor and his sister, kindergartener Jordan, were honored by Alexandria’s Fire and EMS personnel for their potentially life-saving call to 911 last month.

The brother and sister called 911 from their home when their mother loss consciousness.  “The children did a great job in communicating and following instructions from Alexandria Fire Department so they could get their mom the medical help she needed,” said Firefighter Nathan Krause.

Firefighter Krause was joined by a dozen of his fellow firefighters representing the International Association of Firefighters Local 2141 and the Black Fire Service Professionals of Alexandria to present the students with certificates of recognition while their mother looked on proudly.  The firefighters also presented the siblings with toys, a  t-shirt, and a flashlight – gifts from the two organizations.
